A Restless Knight is Just Getting Started
Goes under the category, “Don’t get me started, please.”
There are many things that make a knight restless, but today’s politics is chief among them. I can’t remember a time when the electoral process was so vitriolic; so replete with lies, exaggerations, and the quoting of opponents out of context. But most of all, I can’t recall a time when an industry ganged up on an incumbent to force a change in attitudes.
Remember back a few months ago, when President Obama was starting to see a rise in the polls, along with a surge in consumer confidence? Well, what the hell happened? This is only an opinion, but don’t you agree that it is strange to see gasoline prices rise, just as the economy is about to improve, well before the driving season begins? Supply and demand for oil might be the cause, but with European and Asian economies faltering, and cars with much greater fuel efficiency now filling the roads, it would indicate that demand is down. That coupled with the United States, for the first time in decades, becoming a net exporter of oil, shortages can’t really be blamed.
It so happens that the Oiligarchy, looked at the electoral candidates and decided that it would be far more favorable to their industry to see a Republican President in 2012. Perhaps that is because the last Republican President did such a splendid job in his eight years. But a more likely reason is the favored treatment it would receive with regard to reckless oil drilling (under the guise of energy independence), allowing the piping of the most deadly toxic ooze through environmentally imperiled zones, and an end to the nonsense of higher fuel efficiency standards.
What might quell my restlessness would be an investigation as to a possible conspiracy to force up the price of gasoline, by a timely curtailment of gasoline refining. Would this have happened in a non-election year? Methinks not.
